Our very own Daniel Brophy wins the 2nd National Student Composer Competition for his chamber orchestra piece Volupsa. Held by the Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber Orchestra, the competition was open to any full-time student studying at a Canadian post-secondary institution. The winning work, Volupsa, will be performed by the Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber Orchestra on April 15, 2012.

Daniel Brophy is a composer, performer and instructor. He composes music for various styles and instrumentations varying from orchestral, chamber, solo guitar and Heavy Metal. Daniel graduated from Wilfred Laurier University where he studied composition with professors Linda Catlin-Smith and Glenn Buhr.  For his Masters Degree, he attended the University of Toronto where he studied with Christos Hatzis. Brophy is currently living in Edmonton, Alberta where he is working on his Doctorate at the University of Alberta. He is the co-founder (along with Colin Labadie) of the improvisational noise guitar duo MUGBAIT.
