Toy Piano Composers

I am delighted to congratulate Chris Thornborrow, Elisha Denburg and Fiona Ryan on their recent awards!

Fiona Ryan recently won third prize in SOCAN Foundation's Sir Ernest MacMillian Award for compositions with no fewer than 13 players to full orchestra. Fiona won for her orchestral piece Re: Play, which was premiered by the Sneak Peek Orchestra in September 2010 in our collaborative concert Toy Piano vs. Orchestra.

Both Elisha Denburg and Chris Thornborrow won awards from the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra and will be having them played next season. Elisha won for his orchestral piece Prelude, which was also premiered by the Sneak Peek Orchestra in September 2010 in Toy Piano vs. Orchestra. Chris's piece Overcome for string orchestra was written for the Composer's Orchestra in conjunction with the Contemporary Canadian Music Workshop and premiered in April 2011.

Composing and sharing your own music can be a wonderful joy in itself, but it's always that much nicer when the critics notice!
